Weekend: Review

Saturday morning we got up at 6:00 AM. No, that's not a typo. Six-FREAKIN-A-M. Why, you ask? Because our community yard sale was scheduled to start at 7:00 AM. Well, we hauled out a bunch of stuff onto the driveway and then brought out the big items. A futon, two couches and a chair. The weather was overcast but I was fairly confident it wasn't going to rain (and I was right).

We had our first customer a little after 7:00 and he bought a rocking chair and three small toys for $20. We didn't see anyone else for a while and we started wondering if there were even signs out advertising the sale or if anyone else in the neighborhood was participating. So when I ran out to grab us all some breakfast I took a quick tour of the neighborhood and sure enough, there were other people participating. And they had a lot more stuff than we did. In fact, we were the only house on our street that participated.

Over the course of the next 4 or 5 hours we sold three more items; for a dollar each. We did have several people "drive-by" but very few stopped and looked. So around noon I said, "That's enough. We're done." We brought the larger items back inside the house (which was now cleaner than before because [livejournal.com profile] cellymcfae took advantage of an empty livingroom to sweep and mop the floor) and loaded all the smaller things, including the futon, into my truck and dropped them off at Goodwill.

We did take some pictures of the two couches and the chair and I expect to put them up on eBay sometime this week. I still forgot to get a good picture of the motorcycle though.

On Sunday [livejournal.com profile] cellymcfae went off to church as usual while I slept in... as usual. The Clanlad woke me up around 9:00 though because I had promised him we'd go tubing if he got his book report done on Saturday. Well, he did. So as much as I tried to talk him out of it (it was a might chilly Sunday morning), I had to honor my word and take him. It took us a little while to get breakfast and find all the stuff we'd need but eventually we headed off to the Potomac river.

I bought us some river tubes last week so we only had to pay for shuttle service. We were the only ones on the bus. This time we chose to do the whitewater section of the river instead of the flatwater section we did last year. It was great! There's a couple sections of class I & II rapids shortly after you get into the river, then a long section of mostly flatwater as you go under the railroad bridge by Harper's Ferry, then a section of class II & III rapids after the Shenandoah merges with the Potomac, and finally the water flattens back out for a bit just before the take-out point. Since we'd started so late we didn't stop to play on any of the rocks or have lunch so the trip only took us an hour and a half. We did spend an hour waiting for the return shuttle but they didn't seem very busy. I guess when school ends they'll start running the shuttles more often.

Once we got home, I took the bike out for a quick spin up to the grocery store for some burger fixin's. We grilled out Sunday night, finishing just before The Clanlad's mother came to pick him up. We tried settling down to watch some t.v. but we were both pretty tired so we managed to go to bed at a reasonable time.
