On this day in 1927, 25-year-old Charles Lindbergh cemented his place in American history when he completed the first nonstop transatlantic solo flight from New York to Paris. His single-engine plane, dubbed The Spirit of St. Louis, landed a Le Bourget airfield after a 33.5-hour flight. Nicknamed "Lucky Lindy" by then-president Calvin Coolidge, Lindbergh came home to a ticker tape parade and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
