macdobhran: Whoop Ass (Our House!)
[personal profile] macdobhran
Happy New year everyone! I guess I should get you caught up on what's been happening around Castle MacDobhran.

Things have been plodding along (as things are wont to do). Work is the same as always except for the part where we all got hosed for bonuses this year. I wasn't expecting that and it ended up putting a little damper on the Christmas season for me. [livejournal.com profile] cellymcfae and I have talked it over and one of our combined resolutions this year is to get as far out of debt as possible. We're going to meet together weekly (no t.v., no distractions) and go over the bills and accounts so we can stay on top of things. We're also going to each be given an allowance and expected to live off of that rather than using checks or credit cards. I'm probably going to have a harder time with that than she will. Unfortunately this means no unnecessary trips, no parties, no DVDs (*sob*), etc. for a while. It's not going to be easy but I have confidence that we will be able to turn our situation around.

Despite my financial consternation, the holidaze were pretty good. My family came over on Saturday (Christmas Eve Eve). We exchanged gifts and had dinner (I cooked a turkey, dood!). Then Sunday afternoon, [livejournal.com profile] cellymcfae and I went to give prezzies to our favorite goddaughter. She really seemed to love the giant, stuffed penguin (it's as big as she is!) that we got her. Although we'll see how she feels in a couple weeks, young women are such fickle creatures, donchaknow?

I went to Midnight Mass that evening and sat with [livejournal.com profile] ilostonjeopardy and her MIL. [livejournal.com profile] cellymcfae was up in the choir and although she didn't sing a solo, she was part of a quintet. We didn't get home and to bed until after 1:00 AM.

Christmas morning we got up much too early considering there were no kids waking us up with squeals of delight and questions about Santa. We finally got on the road to NC around 8:30 AM and arrived just before 2:30 PM. The drive was pretty nice because there was hardly any traffic and I think we only saw three semis the whole trip (which, if you've ever driven down I-81 you know, is highly unusual.) [livejournal.com profile] cellymcfae's sister and family came over the next day and we all had a nice relaxing day catching up. We stayed one more day in NC so [livejournal.com profile] cellymcfae could spend time with her mother and then we headed back to WV on Thursday.

The house is still standing. I still have Honey-Do list as long as my... arm. There's still a hole in the kitchen ceiling. There's always something that needs doing when you own a house. Luckily my steady weight loss is giving me more engery and one of my personal goals for the year is to keep up with all the maintenance and cleaning around the house. This week? I'm Clean Sweeping my half of the closets!

Stop drooling, [livejournal.com profile] ani_moore.

Speaking of weight loss, let's just say "It's going", mkay. Really, it is. I think I've had a little set back over the holidays but I was at the gym by 6:00 AM this morning and I'll be there every day of the week if I can help it. No more slacking for this boyo. I've gotten a little taste of what's to come and I like it! I could probably justify buying new pants now but since I'm viewing this as a long term process, I want to do that as few times as possible. So for now I'll keep bunching up my pants with my belt* until I'm down at least two sizes from where I started.

The scales read 336 pre- and 341 post-workout. I don't know if those numbers are off because I haven't been to the gym for the last couple weeks or if I gained back more than I thought of Christmas. We'll see next week what the scale says after I get back into the swing of things.

*= It's not quite an Ed Grimley look but it's getting there.
