ED. - I think LJ farted. I could see that some people commented but I couldn't see the comments and I didn't get any emails. So I deleted the original and reposted below.
Last Friday I went to pick up the Clanlad for the weekend as usual. What wasn't usual was that his mother's birthday was on Sunday. So on the way to their house I picked up some flowers (daffadils, flox, 2 dwarf spruce trees, and some mulch) so the Clanlad and I could "curb appeal" the front of their townhouse. Typical of most new home construction in NoVA, the houses were built on a fine mixture of clay and rocks. And clay. We had a heck of a time digging holes big enough for our plantings. We put in a scalloped bed border, planted the plants in the bed, planted the trees in two big pots she already had, mulched the trees with white rocks and the beds with shredded pine bark. It took us two hours. I think it looked okay (she cried) but it was dark by the time we finished.
It was such a beautiful day on Saturday that I dragged the wife and the ClanLad out into the backyard to help me clean out the flower beds. Now if you've never been to our house I should point out that our flower beds are pretty extensive. (Hmm, maybe I should post pictures.) I was lazy last fall and didn't clean the beds like I should have to there was quite a bit of yard waste. After 3 hours of toiling in the dirt we had created a pile of dead branches and plants about 6 feet high.
"Quite a bit"... HA! I'm definitely posting pictures.
After I had rested a bit I took a ride over to a local cycle shop to exchange my broken footpeg. I had talked to Küryakyn earlier in the week and they said that since I didn't buy the pegs from them I would have to exchange it at the store and they (Küryakyn) would then replace the store's stock. That worked out pretty well because I only had to change out the footpeg to ride to the store and then changed it back the next day.
Sunday was mostly a big lazy day. I did some cooking (for my work lunches) and then napped on the couch while
cellymcfae and the Clanlad dyed eggs for Easter.
Last night I mowed the lawn for the first time this year. It made my little Virgo heart happy to gaze out over neat, even rows--like an Excel spreadsheet of newly mown grass*. Last year I dreaded mowing because I always felt like I was having a heart attack by the time I was done. Frequently I would only mow half the yard because I just physically couldn't finish the whole thing. Yesterday I felt good after mowing. Hell, I could have mowed the neighbors yard too!
I'll be damned, this exercise stuff actually works! Who knew?
This weekend will encompass a trip to the dump for all that yard waste (
snarkymarcy, I know I need to come get that peanut oil from you this week.) and there's still a lot of weeding that needs to be done. Hopefully it won't be too cold. I've also got to seriously plan out some new additions to the yard. I still want a raised vegetable garden and some more trees between us and the road.
I also need to gather up the camping stuff and pack my garb bag for NCRF. As
sweetpea86 says, "I'm ready to party like a barely legal teen!"
* - Someone might want to get
ani_moore a drool bucket and a towel.
