Between 1980 and 1987 Scott won the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii six times and placed second overall in 1994 at age 40. The Ironman competition is a race in which competitors swim 2.4 miles in the open ocean, bike 112 miles, and run a marathon (26.2 miles), all within 17 hours. Hailed as the most grueling triathlon in existence, competitors from around the world attend the annual even in Hawaii.
