On this day in 1949, the first nonstop flight around the world was completed by Captain James Gallagher and a crew of 14 men. Their journey began in Fort Worth, Texas, when they took off heading east in a B-50 Superfortress, nicknamed Lucky Lady II. KB-29 tanker planes refueled the plane midflight four times, over the Azores, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and Hawaii. The entire flight took 94 hours and 1 minute.
