Hot Springs Reservation (later National Park) was established on this day in 1832 in what is now the state of Arkansas. The 47 springs have a temperature of 143 degrees Fahrenheit. It is the smallest and oldest park in the National Park system, established 40 years before Yellowstone. In the park, 800,000 gallons of water gush from the ground every day.
