How to Survive a Volcanic Eruption

1. Move upslope to avoid mudflows and falling debris.
   Do not try to outrun the lava, however.


2. If you are near a depression or valley that might divert the flow from you, try to get to the safe side.


3. Do not sit or lie on the floor or ground.
   Volcanic fumes (like carbon dioxide) do not have a strong odor and are often denser than air, so they collect near the ground.


4. Since volcanic ash can quickly clog the radiator and engine of your car, avoid driving except to evacuate.
