Harrison Ford, one of the most bankable movie stars in Hollywood history, was born on this day in 1942. The actor came to popularity with the 1977 release of George Lucas' Star Wars, in which Ford played starship captain Han Solo. Ford went on to star in two sequels to Lucas' blockbuster, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Ford is perhaps best known as an action hero for his portrayal of Indiana Jones, the archaeologist whose search for historical artifacts in remote lands leads him to incredible adventures. In 2000, Ford rescued a climber stricken with dehydration and altitude sickness in the mountains of Wyoming. The next year, the movie icon had his second noted real-life adventure when he flew his helicopter into Yellowstone National Park to rescue a lost Boy Scout.
