macdobhran: Whoop Ass (Our House!)

About a month ago I told you how we lost part of a tree to winds.  Well, I managed to cut up the downed branches with my trusty reciprocating saw. It took three trips in the Jeep to get it all moved deep into the woods behind the house where hopefully now it's a home for critters.  We hoped the remaining section of the tree would heal itself and remain standing though because it blocks a lot of lights and traffic noise from across the street.

I'm sure you can see where this is going.

A couple weeks ago we got another storm with high winds and another third of the tree came crashing down. This section was even larger than the previous one and measured over 30' in length. The remaining part of the tree still standing was very pathetic looking and more importantly leaning towards the neighbor's fence.  So I tied a 50' length of rope as high as I could on it and while TheWife held the other end. I started making relief cuts in the trunk and as soon as we heard it start to crack, I ran back to my wife and together we pulled and managed to bring down the last of it without damaging anything.

The next day I called a tree service and scheduled them to come take away the rest of the tree and grind down the stump. Now we're starting to think about several Leyland Cypress and maybe a Dogwood.

Or a Redbud.

Or BOTH!
