The Heat Is On
Jul. 27th, 2010 09:41 amOn Sunday I slept in and did a little work around the house before heading into Maryland to a friend’s house for a pool party. Several of us arrived at the same time so there was the usual cacophony of greetings. It was still fairly hot outside but quickly becoming overcast as we sat around the dining room table and caught up with each other. Just about the time the food was going on the grill it started raining. The rain came down fairly hard at times and we heard more than a couple rumbles of thunder. By the time we had all eaten though, the storm had moved on taking the humidity and about 20 degrees with it.
It was getting late in the afternoon so we all headed out to the pool and jumped in. That felt great. Personally I love swimming and since I don’t have regular access to a pool, I hardly ever get to do it. So it was a real treat to not only spend a couple hours playing in the water but to do it with some of my favorite people.
All too soon it was time to go home. When we got there TheWife noticed that the power had been out for about 3 hours. So after resetting all the clocks we settled down to watch some t.v. before heading to bed. After an hour of tossing and turning we got up and figured out that air was not being conditioned as we would like. We tried tripping the breakers on and off, checked the outside unit, etc. It was blowing air at a decent rate but it wasn’t cooling it. So since TheWife absolutely had to be at work on Monday, I decided to stay home and see if I could get someone to come out and fix it.
It was still 79 degrees in the house when we got up. Calls were made and then I just waited for a call back from the HVAC company to see if they could squeeze us in. After a few hours I got the call and the technician determined pretty much what I had suspected, that it was a blown capacitor. Once he replaced that I immediately noticed a difference in the quality of the air coming out of the vents. Since it was going to take several hours for the house to cool back down, I decided to go take in a movie. Ahhh, nachos and air-conditioning. Summer bliss, I tell you.
By the time I returned home in the evening, the house had cooled down nicely. A quick run, salad for dinner, and I was ready to hit the sheets.
