How to Treat a Scorpion Sting
_________________________________________

Most species of scorpion have venom of low to moderate toxicity and, other than severe pain, do not pose a serious health threat to adult humans.

  1. Apply heat of cold packs to the sting site for pain relief. If an allergic reaction occurs, take an antihistamine.

  2. Watch for an irregular heartbeat, tingling in extremities, an inability to move limbs or fingers, or difficulty breathing.

  3. Seek emergency medical care if you exhibit the above symptoms.
An adult will be okay if it takes 12 hours or fewer to get to a hospital, but a small child will need medical care immediately.

  4. Do not apply tourniquets, as the toxins are small and move rapidly away from the wound.
