"Houston. We have a problem."

On this day in 1970, the Apollo 13 spacecraft was 55 hours into a smooth ride to the moon when an oxygen tank exploded and the crew, which consisted of James Lovel Jr., John Swigert Jr., and Fred Haise Jr., were forced to abort the mission. With the help of Mission Control in Houston, the crew managed to conserve what resources they had on board until they could attempt to return to Earth. Four days later they would make a miraculous return to Earth using the sun to align the spacecraft, and the module and its crew returned safely on April 17. The store of the mission would later be told on the big screen in the movie Apollo 13, starring Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, and Bill Paxton.
