- Check with the U.S. State Department for travel warnings before traveling to dangerous areas.
- Carry color pictures of everyone in your party in case something happens.
Stow photocopies of your passport identification page and your credit cards in a safe hiding place. - Dress conservatively and do not wear obvious signs of wealth.
- Ask permission before taking pictures.
Do not take photographs of women or the infirm or elderly. - Carry a "mugger's wallet" containing a small amount of money along with a photo ID (not your driver's license or passport).
Use this wallet for your daily small expenses, but be prepared to surrender it in an emergency.
