Essential Survival Knowledge:
Traveling in Dangerous Regions

____________________________________________

  1. Check with the U.S. State Department for travel warnings before traveling to dangerous areas.

  2. Carry color pictures of everyone in your party in case something happens.
Stow photocopies of your passport identification page and your credit cards in a safe hiding place.

  3. Dress conservatively and do not wear obvious signs of wealth.

  4. Ask permission before taking pictures.
Do not take photographs of women or the infirm or elderly.

  5. Carry a "mugger's wallet" containing a small amount of money along with a photo ID (not your driver's license or passport).
Use this wallet for your daily small expenses, but be prepared to surrender it in an emergency.
