Instigating Christmas
Nov. 27th, 2007 10:48 amI brought in some decorations to work this morning so I could jazz up my cubicle for the holidays. Actually I only brought one tub of stuff, more will come tomorrow. Everyone, and I mean everyone, who has walked past has commented on my holiday cheer. A couple of the Lotus Notes Developers have seen this as a challenge and are planning to decorate their cubicles sometime this week.
I even inspired the guy in the office across from me to go out to CVS and buy a little manger scene for his desk. He said he's going to pick up some more stuff later.
My division vice-president even stopped by and we chatted about collecting snowy villages, trains, and holiday decorating in general.
Apparently all I need now is a red suit and white beard...

Date: 2007-11-27 05:33 pm (UTC)When we were kids, every year I would send her a christmas present, and she would send me a hannukah gift, and we were all happy and stuff.
On the other hand my jewish english teacher threw a shit fit when I was in high school, and she ripped down the christmas tree in the lobby because it didn't represent her. WAy to go. Let's show the kids how tolerant you are of other's beliefs by ripping theirs down because yours isn't there. You know, I would have been perfectly happy to see a menorah up there with the christmas tree. Or, as one group I was with one year made a compromise with, they took a christmas tree, decorated it in blue ribbons and stars of david, and declared it a holiday bush.
If it's your own desk, I don't see why it's a big deal to decorate it as you see fit. If someone with a different belief system decorates their own desk their way, it shouldn't be an issue.

Date: 2007-11-27 07:43 pm (UTC)I used to have to hang a sign on my lights because they were at garroting height across my cube's doorway. *grin*
Then there's the Birthday Tree for my husband in January...decorated in golf balls and lights.
