When Does This Get Fun?
Aug. 9th, 2010 01:44 pmOf course the weird thing is that yesterday I was bored in the afternoon and instead of watching t.v. and polishing off a bag of Dorito’s I decided to go out for a run. I also considered doing some yard work which would have been ultimately more productive but instead I chose to run.
Let me repeat that. I chose to run.
Do you realize how monumental that is?? I’ve always been The Fat Kid. Last to be picked, not good at sports, constant jokes, etc. I did play two years of football and two years of wrestling in high school. I also used to do a lot of backpacking and backwoods camping. The last time I can remember actually running was for wrestling and then it was only because the coach made us do it. I’ve never enjoyed it.
Jump ahead 25 years and almost 200 lbs and here I am. Running. Voluntarily. It feels very strange but also kind of good. I still can’t finish the entire workout at the level I want to without massive pain but I can feel myself getting closer. I notice that I can walk a little bit further without becoming winded. I’m also starting to pay more attention to my stride while running instead of just leaning forward and hoping I can move faster than gravity can cause me to faceplant on the asphalt.
I’ve gotten used to the shoes (you were right, Kathy, just took a few days) and I actually feel kind of bouncy when I put them on. For that reason I only wear them to the gym and for running. I don’t want them to get to “comfortable” by wearing them every day. I want them to be special. I still love my Garmin Forerunner and I just ordered a bluetooth adapter and headphones for my iPod Nano. I can’t wait to try working out without having to fuss with wires.
So until next time, look for me on the side of the road. In my special shoes.
