Actor Sean Connery was born on this day in 1930, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Connery's first major movie role was as the suave secret agent James Bond in the 1962 film Dr. No. He didn't gain much fame for his portrayal of Bond until Goldfinger in 1964, at which point the series, in tandem with Connery's career, took off. Connery won an Academy Award in 1987 for his supporting role in The Untouchables.
