- If shots are fired, keep your head down and drop to the floor.
If you can, get behind something, but do not move far--your captors may thing you are attempting an escape or an attack. - Carefully follow directions.
Remain alert and do not try to escape. If told to put your hands over your head or to get into another position, do it. - Keep the following tips in mind:
- Do not make any sudden movements.
- Do not attempt to hide your wallet, passport, ticket, or belongings.
- If your captors speak to you, respond in a calm, self-possessed tone of voice.
- Observe the characteristics and behavior of your captors. Give them nicknames in your mind so you can identify them. Take note of attire, facial characteristics, height, and any aspect that might later help authorities.
- If you are singled out by your captors, be responsive but do not volunteer information.
- If a rescue attempt is made, remain calm and get on the ground.
Rescue attempts often involve gunfire.
