Choosing the right weapons (never carry just one) can make the difference between a pile of dead zombies, and becoming one yourself. When confronted with the undead, it is easy to believe in the super-commando strategy: Load up with the heaviest, most powerful weapons possible and go out to "kick ass." This is not only foolish--it is suicidal.

Multi-purpose tools that can double as weapons are ideal, especially for hand-to-hand or close-contact combat. Fire power and ammo is necessary for long-range safety and self-preservation, of course, but if the ammo runs out, you still need to be ready.

I am also an advocate of crossbows and bows in general, since arrows can be easily reused, unlike bullets.
