- Immediately wash the bite with soap and running warm water, if possible.
The wound can also be treated with an antiseptic such as hydrogen peroxide or an antibiotic ointment. - Dress the wound with a sterile cloth of bandage.
- Capture the animal, if possible.
If the animal is wild and you kill it, preserve its head (but do not freeze it): The brain will be tested for rabies. If the animal cannot be captured, be prepared to give doctors and animal control authorities a thorough description of the animal. - Get medical attention as soon as possible.
Then report the bite to animal control authorities.
